In a home environment, insecticidal aeroaerosol is a commonly used tool to deal with pests such as mosquitoes and cockroaches. However, for people who keep pets at home, such products may hide health risks that cannot be ignored. The physiological structure of pets is significantly different from that of humans. They have a weaker ability to metabolize chemical substances, and their daily behavioral habits (such as licking their fur and getting close to the ground) increase the risk of exposure. Therefore, it is necessary to fully understand the impact of Aerosol Cans on pets and master the safe usage methods.

The impact of aerosol cans on pets is first reflected in respiratory tract irritation. Most products contain active ingredients such as pyrethroids and organophosphorus. After these substances are sprayed and diffused into the air, the respiratory mucosa of pets will be directly stimulated. Cats, dogs and other pets have a higher breathing rate than humans, and their nasal mucosa is more sensitive, making them prone to symptoms such as sneezing, coughing and shortness of breath. In severe cases, it may trigger diseases such as asthma and bronchitis. Especially for short-nosed dogs (such as Pugs) and flat-faced cats (such as Garfield cats), their respiratory tract structures are special, and their reactions after being stimulated will be more obvious.

Secondly, skin and digestive tract injuries are equally common. During activities, pets' fur and claws are prone to getting contaminated with residual liquid medicine on the ground or surfaces of objects. If they subsequently lick their fur or bite their claws, toxic substances may enter the digestive tract, causing poisoning reactions such as vomiting, diarrhea, and loss of appetite. Some pets have a relatively weak skin barrier function. Direct contact with the liquid medicine may also cause allergic symptoms such as redness, swelling, itching and hair loss, especially in delicate skin areas such as the abdomen and armpits.

In addition, the tolerance of different types of pets to aerosol cans varies greatly. The respiratory systems of birds (such as parrots and orioles) are extremely fragile. Even low concentrations of medicinal solutions can cause them to have breathing difficulties and suffocate to death. If the fish tank (such as goldfish and tropical fish) is not properly protected, the liquid medicine will spread into the water through the air or water source, which will disrupt the water quality balance and cause poisoning of the fish. Small mammals such as hamsters and rabbits have poor metabolic capacity. Even a small amount of exposure may cause neurosuppression symptoms, such as listlessness and weakness in the limbs.

To reduce the harm of aerosol can to pets, comprehensive protection should be taken when using it: Before spraying, move the pet to a well-ventilated outdoor area or a closed room, and at the same time cover the pet's food bowl, water bowl, nest, fish tank and birdcage. Choose products with mild ingredients and labeled as "low toxicity for pets", and avoid using aerosols containing highly toxic components such as organophosphorus and carbamates. After spraying, keep the room well-ventilated for 2 to 3 hours. Once the liquid medicine has completely evaporated, wipe the floor and the surface of furniture with a damp cloth to remove any remaining liquid medicine. Only allow the pet to return to the room after confirming it is safe. If a pet accidentally comes into contact with the liquid medicine and shows abnormal symptoms, it is necessary to immediately take the pet and the product instructions of the aerosol to a pet hospital for treatment, so that the doctor can provide timely and appropriate treatment.
